PATT Foundation team have continued their active start to 2009 with a host of tree planting and environmental activities squeezed into the last month. Our education team hosted several sessions in the ‘outdoor class room’ at Phra Phradaeng, the one remaining green location in Bangkok. New Sathorn International school kids from years 1 -6 from were guided along a steamy jungle trail, shown the unique ecosystem and then taken to participate in an ongoing reforestation project. This same location was also the site for our Family Day. Several families enjoyed a very different day in Bangkok, they escaped the lure of Bangkok’s numerous glistening shopping malls and participated in something more rustic. The group of expats and local Bangkokian’s visited this unique part of the city and planted several native trees in our tree planting project. The local community also prepared some local bush snacks and great Thai food for the participants. We hope to make these events a regular addition to the PATT event calendar during the coming year.
We were also able to spread the PATT message at the annual NIST international day. This local school hosts a great event each year showcasing the cultural diversity of the school. We thank everyone who visited our booth and also everyone who purchased PATT gifts or made donations.
The news from the PATT tree nursery adjacent to Khao Yai National park is all positive. This project (sponsored by Raimon Land and PDA) aims to provide quality native trees for our restoration within the area. Our nursery staff have been making frequent trips into the nearby forest to collect local and in some cases rare seeds for propagation in our nursery. The seedling count at the nursery is growing week by week and we hope to have a big planting event later in the year with our project sponsors (Raimon land and PDA) to celebrate the planting of the first PATT produced trees. The nursery staff have also been visiting local schools to spread the message of correct forest use and the importance of trees.
Wine and Trees??
An unusual combination I know but these are to be the highlights of an event we’re organising for Bangkok based European Young Professionals (EYP) for the weekend of 28th March. EYP is renowned for hosting quality networking and social event throughout the year and for their next event they plan to offer something a little different that also gives a back to the environment. The event is open to everyone, not just EYP members and will take place at the C&C resort in the Khao Yai area north of Bangkok. The weekend away will feature wine-tasting, tree planting and an evening of socialising around a camp fire and BBQ. If this combination of activities sounds appealing please email us for further information.

PATT Foundation has recently initiated a carbon offset project with OrientSKYs. This Asian private jet charter network provides VIP travel to a select clientele. Based in Bangkok Thailand, OrientSKYs is considered the most experienced jet charter company in the region and offers its customers a unique service. OrientSKYs chose PATT as the organization to provide offsets for their customers. The offsets will purchase trees in our Carbon Free project located in the north east of Thailand. This project not only provides a reliable means to offset carbon but has additional environmental benefits, provides employment for the local community and gives back forest ownership to the people directly associated with the forest restoration project. The second group of EcoKids successfully graduated after a week taking part in a range of environmental activities. Our school holiday program is proving a real hit and the feedback has been 100% positive so far. We are currently putting together a schedule for the remaining year so please revisit our site shortly for a list of dates for upcoming EcoKids camps. We hope to be able offer the EcoKids program to kids from all walks of life and as such we are seeking sponsors to donate funds to cover the cost of sending a child from an underprivileged background to one of our camps. If you wish to learn more about this sponsorship opportunity or the EcoKids program please email us for further information.
