Floating Markets

Many Bangkok floating Markets were formed as a result of the easy water transport accessibility in Bangkok. 30 to 40 years ago the city use to have thousands of canals which made water transportation easy and popular. Unfortunately many of those water canals have disappeared due to development.

The popular Floating markets exist outside of Bangkok and are worth visiting if you don’t mind tourist attractions. There are two different markets to visit ‘Damnoen Saduak’ morning floating market and ‘Amphawa evening market’ just on the outskirts of Bangkok.

The reason that both market don’t operate in daytime is probably the heat. That is why the markets open during the ‘cooler’ times of the day: morning or evening.

Damnoen Saduak starts to operate in the early morning and is mostly finished around noon. This market gave us a very nice impression of the Thai culture. It is interesting to notice how some vendors do the selling from their small boats while they are socializing with everybody at the same time.
